Masks in the new era

I am strongly recommending masks as a wise and kind choice at crowded indoor venues.

My ever-changing viewpoint follows the ever-changing science

A three day cold or a three hour mask? Consider this
On rare occasions, for a short time, in a crowded indoor venue, where an infection is more likely, why not wear a mask? It's so darn easy, and much more convenient than hassling with the common cold, flu, or even covid that has seemingly taken a back seat.

Interesting: Let’s wash our hands of this.
Did you know there was a time when the idea of handwashing was a cultural shock and doctors would lose their jobs for just recommending it. It wasn't until 100 years later in 1980 (if you can believe this) that handwashing was finally widely accepted as important hygiene for the general public. Now we have more fresh knowledge about the power of masks. When we wore masks, in specific times and situations, not only didn't we get Covid, but it’s been widely reported to me that we didn't even get the flu or a common cold. Though masking is controversial and quite the culture shock right now, it works. So I recommend getting on the cutting edge and do what is wise and kind even if it's not popular. Give this some thought.

Excerpt from the CDC as of 5/17/23 regarding older adults. The key here is vaccination.
Older adults (especially those aged 50 years and older) are more likely than younger people to get very sick from COVID-19. The risk increases with age. Older unvaccinated adults are more likely to be hospitalized or die from COVID-19. Stay up to date on your vaccines … wear the most protective mask that fits well ... Get treatment early if you have COVID-19. CDC and older adults

There are plenty of other situations where we will unknowingly pick up an infection. Why open ourselves to this on purpose (knowing the higher risks at a crowded indoor venue) when we have a simple solution. That why I’m still recommending masks under particular situations.

Thank you for your considerations.

P.S. Though the overwhelming communications come from fans thanking me for the mask requirements, I have received two communications from fans saying that the data shows that masks don’t work. I’m sorry they have been misled. I find it my responsibility, because I inspire people to my shows, to know the facts and the ever-changing science. I use only reliable sources; CDC, Johns Hopkins, Cleveland Clinic, Northwester Hospital, Mayo Clinic who understand the data and the research and are able to come up with the ever-changing conclusions. Masks are a simple solution to complex situations. And they work! That doesn’t mean you have to wear them. It is a choice now.
